In Autumn 2017, Caterlink started a sugar reduction program, with the aim to reduce free sugars in desserts to a maximum of 6.5g a day, in line with Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition and the Children’s Food Trust’s guidance. Since the start of the program, Caterlink have reduced sugar by 67% which equates to over half a million kilograms.
In order to achieve this we have adopted a number of tactics including swapping sugar for fruit and flavouring natural yoghurt in place of high sugar pre-prepared yoghurts.

The year 2 results show that average sugar per lunch is now 4.4g, below the 6.5g target
We are now focussing on developing new recipes which meet our sugar targets and maintaining these results throughout our business going forward.
